AARP Foundation Experience Corps
AARP Foundation Experience Corp is looking for our Seniors who are 50 years and older ( preferably retired) that can volunteer time to tutor small groups of children.
We have 19 schools on the South and West side of Chicago in the Englewood and North Lawndale communities that’s in need of volunteers for the Basic Literacy Skills program.

Mission Statement: ( Experience Corps engages highly trained adults 50+ who help children attain grade level reading and literacy proficiency so that children succeed and older adults thrive.)
So a little about AARP Experience Corps: Experience Corps is a proven intergenerational early literacy tutoring program with a focus on kindergarten through third grade. The program places trained volunteers 50 and older in public school classrooms to work with struggling students in small groups (generally 2-3 students) per group. Volunteer literacy tutors receive intensive pre-service and in-service training. All the materials you will need are provided by the classroom teacher and AARP Experience Corps. The program operates during the school day and in the classroom with the teacher present.
There will also be event postings for future Volunteer informational session in the events section.
Volunteer tutors commit to the program for the entire school year, usually starting in early October and serving through May. We ask for a minimum of five hours a week and a twice weekly schedule; either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday.
Minimum requirements: All volunteers must have a high school diploma or GED, be willing to take and pass a criminal background check, pass a basic literacy screening, can complete 25 hours of training and be able to volunteer at least 5 hours a week for the school year. We cover topics like cultural misconceptions, treatment options, steps to become a living donor, risks and benefits of donation, financial issues, and immigrant issues. This website was designed to inform and empower prospective donors, patients, and family and friends about living kidney donation through the use of testimonials, interviews, telenovelas, interactive games, and descriptions of resources and policies. Greater awareness about the risks and benefits of living kidney donation will help Hispanic/Latino patients and families to make more informed treatment decisions.

The Duman Entrepreneurship Center Loan Fund makes loans up to $15,000 to businesses who can demonstrate that the loan will help grow the business. These are 3-year term loans, with very low-interest rates and no penalty for early repayment. There is a low loan application fee and closing cost. The owners must personally guarantee the loan and the owners credit history will be reviewed.

Roberto Clemente Community Academy (RCCA) is located in Chicago’s Humboldt Park community, on the West Side of the city. Historically a Puerto Rican community, Humboldt Park is home to the Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC), Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture (IPRAC), as well as many community agencies and organizations that center around the Puerto Rican experience. Roberto Clemente Community Academy has developed working partnerships with many of these organizations, with the potential for further expansion.
The residents of this community have a strong sense of civic duty as evidenced by the many community organizations and human service agencies in the area, and are deeply concerned about the quality of education that students receive. Today, the school population of about 750 students is diverse, including large groups of students of Puerto Rican, Mexican, and African-American descent, as well as students from East European and other Latin American heritages.
