Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation is a member-based non-profit community development corporation serving the communities of West Town, Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Hermosa.
Founded in 1967 by local residents and institutions, Bickerdike has a long history of successfully applying an innovative and multifaceted approach to revitalizing these communities. Through mission-driven affordable housing development, preservation, property and asset management, economic development with a focus on jobs, comprehensive community planning and project implementation, grassroots leadership development and youth engagement, Bickerdike improves the quality of life for, and with, low and moderate income residents and the neighborhoods in which they live.

The Greater West Town Training Project provides two sector-based training programs in Woodworking and Solid Surface Manufacturing and Shipping and Receiving designed to help match the needs of area manufacturers and local workers. Our classroom curricula and hands-on trainings have been developed in partnership with local industry and continuously updated by community business leaders to ensure that the skills that participants develop in class are marketable and meet current industry standards. Located in Chicago’s west side on Kedzie Avenue just north of North Avenue, the recovery home is close to public transportation for those who commute to work.
After Work/After School Outpatient Treatment Programs are provided at two nearby Gateway Treatment Centers for those who wish to participate.
First Defense Legal Aid
First Defense Legal Aid provides free, 24-hour, legal representation to people in Chicago Police Department custody and educates Chicagoans about how to protect their constitutional rights. We undertake these activities to promote fairness and accountability in the justice system.

DSBDA services help individuals navigate and apply for programs such as the Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) and business loan programs. Our Fast Trac to Business Planning classes for new entrepreneurs and existing businesses has helped to establish 8 new business in the past four years on Paseo Boricua.
