Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA)
LUCHA was founded in 1982 by residents of Humboldt Park, West Town and Logan Square to combat displacement and preserve affordable housing in the community. Since its founding, LUCHA has helped more than 68,000 low-to-moderate income families rent decent and affordable housing, obtain Section 8 rental assistance, purchase good homes, improve dilapidated buildings, make emergency repairs, obtain adequate insurance coverage, make their home more accessible or more energy efficient, and beautify their neighborhoods.

Receive quality education in convenient locations and affordable rates. Our mission is to promote and improve the quality of life for families by providing a safe, child-directed, certified, affordable and faith-based childcare education with a sliding fee structure for parents.
Our Company’s History
Founded in 1911 by the Women of the Lutheran Deaconess Home, we opened as a Christian kindergarten to help working mothers in need of child care. Likewise, we are duly licensed by the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago Department of Human Services as a professional day care center.
About Our Education Program
Lutheran Day Early Childhood Center has earned 3-Star Quality Counts ratings from the DCFS for our day care services. As of June 2011, we have received re-accreditation from the NAEYC for our education programs. A NAYCE accreditation is a set of standards that marks the quality of early childhood education.
Our Staff and Members
Headed by Illa Doss, our Executive Director with a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Administration, we are a recognized non-profit organization specializing in children’s education. Our Board of Directors includes parents, local church representatives, and members of the community.

Responding to the Gospel, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) brings healing, justice, and wholeness to people and communities.
Agency Overview
Serving Illinois since 1867, LSSI is a statewide, not-for-profit social service agency of the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). LSSI is the largest social service provider in the state, and last year served 73,000 people through 190 programs at 85 sites across Illinois.
The demographics of clients served by LSSI generally reflect those of Illinois’ population, with one important exception—more than 80 percent of clients report an annual household income under $15,000, compared to just 12 percent of all Illinois households. The organization provides critical programs for the state’s most vulnerable residents including foster care, adoption, mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment, affordable senior housing, residential programs for people with developmental disabilities, and programs that help formerly incarcerated individuals integrate back into society.

Read moreNobel Neighbors is a community organization founded over 25 years ago in 1985 for the improvement of quality of life for residents and for those who go to school within the borders of North Avenue, Pulaski, Division, and Kostner in the West Humboldt Park area.
In our mission to strengthen the quality of life for residents, Nobel Neighbors has addressed issues such as housing, jobs, education, poverty, and community service. In an area where crime and violence are high (we are the 5th most common destination for ex-offenders in the state of Illinois), local and surrounding residents are afraid to venture out and service the community.
Over the past 25 years, Nobel Neighbors has worked to better the community in terms of housing, education, and community service through just some of these acts:
In an area dominated by rental properties and itinerant residents, the Nobel Neighbors HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency counseled over 300 families annually on home ownership and foreclosure issues for over 3 years. Nobel Neighbors’s most recent survey of the area shows that with proper rehabilitation, new homes have been built, there are fewer run down properties, and fewer homes have been put up for sale.
With a new Wal-Mart located within the community, the store has helped to re-employ about 300 people that had been left jobless. Nobel Neighbors has worked with local industries to help introduce other areas of business such as Menards, Aldi, Advanced Auto, and Family Dollar to provide further careers and jobs for residents.
Community organizations such as the Leader Per Block Club and CPS Administration help to appoint resident leaders on community and educational issues facing residents and students within the Humboldt Park community.
While unemployment, crime, gang, and drug activity are still too high, the community is safer and more vibrant than it was 15 years ago, thanks in no small part to the work of Nobel Neighbors and its allies. However, our community is a victim of its own success: now that residents feel safer, they are less drawn to urgent issues of community development. Yet Nobel Neighbors is a community institution and strives to continue its long history of addressing issues in West Humboldt Park.
Puerto Rican Arts Alliance
The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA) is dedicated to preserving Puerto Rican culture by maintaining our traditions, promoting our arts, providing educational opportunities in arts programming, and cultivating pride in our heritage for future generations.
Programs
The core of PRAA programming is to provide access to free multidisciplinary arts programming to underserved youth.
From free music lessons in our Latin Music Project or exploring historical and cultural traditions in our Taíno Project and Three Kings Program, to experimenting with a variety of media and art forms in our Studio Arts Program; PRAA uses the arts as a vehicle to promote cross-cultural understanding among youth.

Spanish Action Committee of Chicago (SACC) is one of the oldest Puerto Rican organizations in the City of Chicago.
Since its establishment in 1966, its purpose is to effectively and constructively focus attention on and resolve the needs and aspirations of Chicago’s Puerto Rican and Hispanic Communit
