WWP INTERNSHIP POSITIONS

The Westside Writing Project (WWP) is a nonprofit after-school initiative that works to improve the overall communication skills of area youth by helping students develop an interest in media and journalism. We combine an awareness of community issues and current events with exposure in digital media that introduces students to new technology as well as new forms of communication. We are currently seeking student interns for the following positions.

Workshop Facilitators – Providing instruction in digital media workshops for elementary and high school students at specified school locations. Working with a group of 10-15 students providing exposure, guidance and support while leading students in producing and publishing short video podcasts. Responsibilities include providing assistance with:

  • Selecting topics

  • Researching & collecting data

  • Developing story ideas

  • Recording/Editing videos

  • Publishing podcasts to various sites

Workshops will be held once a week lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes over a 10-week period.

Technical Consultant – Providing assistance and technical support, troubleshoot and analyze equipment to resolve compatibility issues. Position requires knowledge and expertise with Final Cut video editing software, use of HD video cameras setting up network on Mac computers. Great opportunity to earn cash as this position does not require a major time commitment.

Social Media Consultant – Looking for initial 2-3 month agreement to increase WWP’s visibility through the use of various social media sites. Analyze WWP’s current social media usage and devise a campaign that maximizes exposure and assists in achieving measurable results. Publish weekly content that informs potential donors and partners of or activities and initiatives.
