Rowe Clark Senior Wins Distinguished Award

Rowe Clark Math & Science Academy high school senior, Fabio Moss, has gone above and beyond to support and enrich his community. In honor of his hard work, Fabio has been named the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago’s 2017 Youth of the Year. This award is Boys and Girls Clubs highest local honor, rewarding leadership, service and academic standing.

Moss has been a member at the James R. Jordan Boys and Girls Club for the past seven years, since his family moved to the Near Westside.Moss is the youngest of seven brothers and after losing his father, one of his friends, and seeing some of the mistakes his brothers made, he was determined to make a positive impact on his community. 

He has been involved in various programs at his school such as National honors society, DuBois Society, as well as ComEd’s Life Coaches program. The Life Coach program utilizes ComEd employees as mentors for students, showing them the possibilities of a career in STEM and helping them set up for a successful future.

Healso  worked with ComEd employee Myron McCullough as his life coach. McCullough’s advice and coaching helped Fabio excel at school and support his love of STEM. Moss was placed with ComEd Engineering as part of a high school summer internship program to further explore this field. Moss is looking to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and to continue working on the social issues he is most passionate about.
