Free Health Screenings, CountyCare Information, Food and Entertainment for Visitors

WHAT:          Free health screenings, flu immunizations, food and entertainment are available this Saturday at Dia de Salud Familiar (Family Health Day) at Dr. Jorge Prieto Family Health Center of Cook County. Visitors can also learn about CountyCare, an early roll out of the Affordable Care Act sponsored by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, which offers eligible adults great, high-quality health care at no cost to them.

In mid-October, CCHHS announced that 120,000 CountyCare applications have been initiated. This means that CCHHS has exceeded its original goal of initiating 115,000 applications by Dec. 31 — more than two months ahead of schedule.

Residents of Little Village and the surrounding neighborhoods will be at the event to take care of their families’ health and enjoy a free day of entertainment, courtesy of Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia (7th district), Alderman Ricardo Munoz (22nd Ward) and Walgreens.

WHEN:           Saturday, November 16, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

WHERE:         Dr. Jorge Prieto Family Health Center of Cook County

                        2424 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago 60623

ABOUT:         CountyCare is an Illinois Medicaid program for eligible adults. It is an early roll out of the Affordable Care Act. It was approved under the federal government’s 1115 Medicaid Waiver, which permits CCHHS to early-enroll 115,000 individuals who will be eligible for Medicaid in 2014 through the Affordable Care Act.

Once a CountyCare member, people receive covered services at no cost to them. Covered services include prescription drugs, regular and specialty visits with the best doctors, hospital stays, laboratory and x-ray services, mammograms, mental health services, public transportation, and other services.

To qualify, applicants must live in Cook County, be 19-64 years of age without dependents at home, have a Social Security number and be a legal immigrant for at least 5 years or a U.S. citizen. Yearly income must be below $15,282 for an individual or $20,628 per couple. Applicants must not be receiving or eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or CHIP.
