Dr. Castillo Joins Father’s Long-Time Gastroenterology Practice

Chicago, Ill. – August 6, 2012 – Samuel F. Castillo, M.D., (left in photo) recently joined the gastroenterology practice of his father, Samuel Castillo, Sr., M.D., who has more than 30 years of experience. Both physicians, board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, are on staff at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medicine Center (SMEMC). Their office is located at the Saint Elizabeth Professional Building, 1431 N. Western Ave., No. 133, Chicago.
The physicians provide specialty care for patients with abdominal and liver diseases – including cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, stomach pain, bowel problems and pancreatic disease. In addition, the specialists provide colon-cancer screenings, treatment for hemorrhoids and ulcers, and nutritional and diet guidance for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s Disease and colitis.
Fluent in Spanish and English, the physicians are trained in the latest GI and liver procedures to treat and diagnose an array of diseases. They provide some procedures in their office. They are available to see outpatients, manage emergency cases at the hospital and monitor care after discharge.
“I believe in a holistic approach to medicine when caring for patients through different phases of their lives – treating the mind, body and soul,” said Dr. Samuel F. Castillo, in practice since 2009. “My goal is to help patients with stomach and liver diseases to regain their health – helping them to get off medications, if possible, and counseling them on special diets and nutrition.”
The younger Dr. Castillo received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Rockford, Ill. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, Minn. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Arizona Affiliated Hospitals, Phoenix.
His father received his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid Facultad de Medicina, Spain. He did his residency at the Detroit Receiving Hospital/Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit. He completed a fellowship at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston and Detroit Receiving Hospital/Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit.
