Digital Technolgy at Humboldt Parks Fingertips

As a Humboldt Park resident, I was offered an amazing an opportunity! I was able to participate in free computer classes (Everyday Digital, Digital 2.0, and CIVIC 2.0) that included; How to use Social Networks, How to navigate government websites, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. Not only did it serve as a refresher for basic use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, but it also served as a very important tool for me to better my community.
My classmates and I receiving our netbooks. Thank you smart Communities!

The classes were quick, and very informational as the teacher never missed a beat. There were so many advantages to participating in the program. I will be able to add these classes to my Resume to give it that extra kick. I was also able to clean up the neighborhood alley that was infested with drug users by using the information provided to me in class and submitting the service request online as well as finding my neighboring property’s owner. We then worked together to clean the alley and make changes that eliminated the drug use. It was a very eye opening experience for me.
As if taking these classes for free wasn’t enough, imagine my surprise when I was informed that because I was a Humboldt Park Resident and I had passed at least three of the classes I signed up for, I would receive a FREE HP Notebook! I was shocked, as well as, grateful. I have been able to do all of my online business without having to run to the Public Library to use the computer.
I wasn’t the only benefactor. Many Humboldt Park Residents were able to take advantage of the program as well. As residents of this great community, I would recommend that we take full advantage of the opportunities given to us by using the Humboldt Park Portal to share information on upcoming events and pass on information on programs like the one I was fortunate enough to participate in.
I would like to thank the people of Bickerdike for informing me of the classes and Smart Community for offering them. Thanks Raquel Torres and Enrique Salgado Jr!
