Chicago Cuatro Orchestra presents: Concierto Jibaro Navideño 2014

The Chicago Cuatro Orchestra Project (CCOP), will be hosting their annual fundraising event entitled, “Concierto Jibaro Navideño 2014.” on Saturday December 2, 2014, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., at the Guerin Prep Theater, 8001 West Belmont in Chicago. The venue doors will be open at 5:00 p.m. for a silent auction, and the theater doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the performance.

The orchestra’s repertoire includes various Puerto Rican musical genres, as well as music from other countries. The orchestra has also travel to other cities in the United States, as part of cultural exchanges with other communities. To learn more about La Orquesta Jibara de Puerto Rico visit their website.This year’s event will feature “La Orquesta Jibara de Puerto Rico Dr. Francisco Lopez Cruz”, established in Puerto Rico in 1967. The orchestra is under the direction of professor Myrna L. Perez, and the mission of the orchestra is to promote traditional Puerto Rican musical values through its string instruments, as well as to conserve and preserve Puerto Rico’s national string instruments, i.e. Tiple, Cuatro, and La Bordonua.

 

Proceeds from this event will benefit the overall mission of the CCOP, a non-for profit organization with a similar mission as La Orquesta Jibara De Puerto Rico: to educate and promote Puerto Rican culture in Chicago & the Midwest by utilizing the music of the national instrument of Puerto Rico (Cuatro). CCOP is focus on teaching and creating a new generation of “Cuatristas” (Cuatro musicians), so they can become the future leaders, instructors, composers, and conductors of the orchestra.
