Clemente Students immerse themselves in the Humboldt Park community

On the morning of September 23, Clemente’s freshmen embarked on a scavenger hunt to discover all they could about the Humboldt Park community.

Beloved by the immigrants and working people whose rights he has championed, eleven-term Congressman Luis Gutierrez is, among Latinos and along with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the most recognized Hispanic public figure in America. Here Gutiérrez recounts his life between two worlds: too Puerto Rican in America, where he was born and yet was told to “go back to where you came from”; too American in Puerto Rico, where he was ridiculed as a “gringo” who couldn’t speak Spanish.

NFPN’s Summer Food Drive

The Northwest Food Partners Network is an alliance of organizations dedicated to building food security in our communities of Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Hermosa, West Town and Belmont Cragin. Our mission is to end hunger, improve nutrition and empower community members to build their own food security. NFPN hosts regular food drives to help community members become engaged and participate in enhancing our food security.

Rehabbed, Restored, and Re-Rooted

Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) will be celebrating the restoration of Borinquen Bella, 47 units of Affordable Housing and the restoration of two historical murals Hector Duarte’s Honor Boricua and John Weber’s Breaking the Change that are located in two of the Borinquen Bella buildings.

Free! Cooking Matters Classes: The Dish on Diabetes

Free, healthy cooking classes begin on September 16, 2013, at Turkey Chop Gourmet Grill, 3506 West Chicago Avenue. Learn about healthy food choices and cooking options to manage and prevent diabetes. Classes will be held on Mondays from 6:00pm – 8:30pm.
