Technology is changing the way we shop, the way we do business, the way we work, and the way the world works.  I ran across a fascinating CNBC documentary on Google and technology called “Inside the Mind of Google”.  Take a few minutes to look at this video.  You will be amazed at what technology can do and how quickly it is changing.  For those of us not in the “technology field” it can seem impossible to stay current.   Business owners are often busy running their businesses and do not have the time to keep up with technology.  On the other hand some people say that businesses that are not engaged with social media will not be around in five years.  Many business owners in Humboldt Park are not engaged with technology at all, have no computer, or no Internet access.

The Smart Communities Program aims to assist business owners in Humboldt Park with access to broadband, and tools to help them with hardware, software and training.  One of the ways we aim to assist business owners is through a series of workshops on technology topics that can help their business.   Planned workshop topics include Social Marketing for Your Restaurant, Social Media, Email Marketing, QuickBooks Pro 2011, Introduction to Computers for Business (Parts 1 & 2), Using Outlook, Build Your Webpage Using Google Sites, and more.  Check out the current line-up of Smart Communities Business Workshops:
