On Saturday, May 20th, there was a gathering at the McDonald’s on Western Avenue in Chicago to celebrate the end of week-long fundraising events with Roberto Clemente Community Academy.

On Monday, the 15th, the owners of the McDonald’s spoke at Clemente and told their story to the students and the students were able to ask questions.

All week, all the patrons of the McDonald’s could order the Daily Wildcat Special; all proceeds went to Clemente. On Thursday, May 18th all the teachers worked at the McDonald’s for a McTeacher’s night. On Friday night, May 19th, the teachers sold pies to raise money for Clemente.

On Saturday, families enjoyed the raising of the flag by the Clemente Color Guard, the Clemente Steel Drums, Band, Drum Line, Sports teams, Tommy Hawk from the Blackhawks, Benny the Bull and the IncrediBulls from the Chicago Bulls, and Clemente Cheer, and Dance Team. At 3:00 a $10,000 check was presented to Principal Sorensen of Clemente Community Academy by the McDonald’s owners, John and Carmen DeCarrier. State Representative Melissa Conyears-Ervin and Alderman Scott Waguespack were also present. They had some wonderful things to say about the DeCarriers giving back to the local community and about Roberto Clemente Academy.
