Bickerdike: ¡No se Vende! Here to Stay
Did you know that new-construction projects like Nelson Mandela Apartments and the upcoming Emmett Street Project are just part of what we do?
We are also focused, and experts, on the rehab of our older developments. The preservation of quality affordable housing that benefits current residents, allows them to remain in the communities they call home.
Preservation projects such as 1704 N. Humboldt (pictured), which was completed in 2014, West Town Housing Preservation, which was completed just this summer, and the upcoming preservation of Victory Apartments are all part of meeting our mission, which in part is:
“We, the members of Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, are committed to the redevelopment of the West Town, Humboldt Park. Logan Square, Hermosa, and Avondale communities for the benefit of and control by the low and moderate-income families in these area.”
These words are just as true today as they was when we were founded in 1967.
You can be part of that work by becoming a Bickerdike member. Members still make up our largest decision-making body. At our Annual Membership Meeting, they have the opportunity to be involved and engaged in guiding our direction. Members also participate in the election of the open term seats for the Board of Directors, vote on Advisory Resolutions, and be updated on our current and future work.
