Local Businesses Take Action during Hunger Action Month

The Northwest Food Partners Network is currently partnering with the following local businesses during their Summer/Hunger Action Month Food Drive for the month of September! You can participate by donating non-perishable goods at Knockbox CafeCredit Union 1 Caballeros de San Juan and Plenty Grocery & Deli.

Knockbox Cafe is located at 1001 N. California Ave. 

Credit Union 1 Caballeros de San Juan is located at 2359 N. Washtenaw Ave. 

Plenty Grocery & Deli is located at 2036 W Division St. 

Dave of Plenty Grocery & Deli says that they are, ‘happy to support the community in anyway.’ Currently, over 43,000 residents are food insecure within NFPN’s service areas, meaning that they are unsure when or where they will receive their next meal. You can help alleviate this need by donating at participating local businesses. 

Here is a wish list of the most needed items: 

Food Items

  • Rice
  • Beans (dry or can)
  • Tortillas
  • Cereal
  • Cereal/granola bars (snacks)
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables

Non-Food items

  • Toiletries (toothbrush/paste, deodorant)
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Cleaning Supplies (Lysol spray/bleach)
  • Diapers (both child and adult)
  • Feminine Products

The Northwest Food Partners Network is an alliance of organizations within the communities of Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Hermosa, Belmont Cragin and West Town working on food security, nutrition and ending hunger. NFPN’s mission is to collaborate to end hunger, improve nutrition and empower community members to build their own food security by 2015. 

NFPN’s lead agency is La Casa Norte. La Casa Notre’s mission is to serve youth and families confronting homelessness. They provide access to stable housing and deliver comprehensive services that act as a catalyst to transform lives and communities. La Casa Norte dreams of a world where all people have dignity, communities thrive and everyone belongs. NFPN is funded through Chicago Community Trust.
