City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin hosted two final community cleanups of the summer on the South and West sides in celebration and culmination of an initiative to clean Chicago.

In light of the civil unrest around Chicago and the entire country, City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin started this initiative to clean the most underserved communities in the city one neighborhood at a time. Throughout the summer, Conyears-Ervin’s cleanups have managed to attract hundreds of volunteers from across the city. This past weekend’s cleanups will be a partnership with 8th Ward Alderman Michelle Harris, in addition to other community leaders.

“Since I was elected, I’ve been implementing new initiatives that would be impactful to the residents and small business owners of Chicago,” Conyears-Ervin said. “This initiative is just a small way to give back to the communities and businesses that have invested so much into the neighborhoods they serve. I’m a firm believer in a clean community being a safe community and the volunteers that have given their time on weekends also understand this, so I’m appreciative of the hard work that has been done.”

With a priority on social distancing and providing the proper PPE, volunteers were tasked with cleaning trash in areas that sit in South and West side neighborhoods hardest hit by COVID-19 and recent looting.
