New Moms equips struggling, impoverished adolescent parents (aged 13-24) and their children with the personal and workforce development tools they will need, to permanently change their life stories from chronic dependence on society, to economic independence and family stability.
We offer a loving, safe and stable environment, while providing:
- Individualized case management;
- Supportive housing;
- Career-readiness, parenting, life skills and literacy training; and
- Age-appropriate children’s programming with routine screenings for signs of abuse and neglect.

Our Expertise
New Moms has over 30 years’ experience, specializing in outreach and services to what most consider an “unreachable” population– homeless and near-homeless adolescent parents (aged 13-24) and their children (birth-age 5).
Based in Chicago, our staff has the community network, collaborative relationships, experience, and culturally-competent outreach expertise that make them uniquely qualified to provide the assistance these high-risk families require.
We have a multi-cultural staff of 28:

- 7 speak Spanish
- 8 live or have lived in our immediate community
- 8 were themselves teen moms or children of teen moms.

Little City’s Center for Family & Community-Based Services provides services to children in foster care who have been identified by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS) as having been abused or neglected. As part of our mission, Little City is committed to recruiting and supporting foster/adoptive families to provide loving homes for children with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Graffiti Zone
Graffiti Zone is an after-school arts program in which youth can connect with themselves and their community through art making and arts promotion. Art is used as a tool to develop business skills, leadership skills, increase self-esteem, strengthen community involvement and encourage advanced education. Artist Jody Cooley founded Graffiti Zone in 2006 as a drop-in arts studio for children and teens in West Humboldt Park.
The program was established in direct response to a pressing community need: to keep young people off the streets during the critical afterschool hours when drug and gang-related activity is at its peak. Cooley generated interest in the studio using street outreach methods common to social services organizations. Upon identifying at-risk youth hanging out on street corners, staff members invited them in to the studio to work on arts projects, learn new skills, and find support in a safe environment. Graffiti Zone now provides art classes, workshops and art shows at Cameron Elementary School, Rowe Clark and West Town Academy.

San Lucas United Church of Christ is a member of the United Church of Christ, a Christian denomination made up of 5,600 churches and 1.2 million members. Reverend Jorge Morales founded San Lucas Church in 1976. The church’s original founding members was composed of thirty Christian conscious men and women, who were raised in the Humboldt Park community, and sought a Christian remedy to the ills of poverty and deprivation faced by the community at large. They sought to make concrete changes in the day-to-day lives of people living in the Humboldt Park and West Town community, which at that time was predominantly Puerto Rican.

This is why San Lucas Church is committed and is n solidarity with the struggle of the poor. San Lucas United Church of Christ provides worship services on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Other services provided by San Lucas Church include the Hot Meal Program, where every Tuesday at 12 Noon, community residents are provided with a hot meal; the Food Pantry provides community residents with groceries every 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month; the Thrift Store provides residents with clothing/shoes, household needs, on Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

In collaboration with the Chicago Food Depository, San Lucas Church provides fresh fruits and vegetables through the Produce Mobile Program, every Third Monday of the month; community residents are provided assistance with their energy bill during the winter months through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, sponsored by the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, In.; after school program is provided to community youth through the Teen Reach After School Program through the BUILD Organization – Monday thru Friday at 3:00 p.m.; weekly creative writing workshops sponsored by the Neighborhood Writing Alliance, are held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

In addition, over the last Five years, San Lucas Church, in collaboration with the Puerto Rican Cuatro Project, offers the Annual Puerto Rican Tiple Construction Workshop. This workshop provides community residents/participants the rudiment of stringed instrument making, as well as to provide information about this extinct string instrument, its cultural history, its music, and place in Puerto Rican society. The church has also provided its space to other community organizations to present their programs and events.

The Illinois Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) makes it possible for families who qualify to receive financial assistance in paying for child care. Parents must be engaged in a qualifying activity such as work and/or school to be eligible. Parents must also meet income and family size guidelines that have been set according to 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

| Description | Bethel’s mission is to realize God’s vision of a restored society by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building neighborhoods through community-driven, solution-oriented, and value-centered approaches.
The Next Steps Re-Entry Program offers a free multi-dimensional re-entry program to give formerly incarcerated people the resources they need to get back on their feet. Our program offers one-on-one mentoring, job training, and intensive case management, which includes attention to anger management, substance abuse, job readiness, and financial literacy. |
| Intake Process | All walk-ins are welcome– they come to the reception area and fill out an intake form, and after we’ve checked their name against the system we set up an appointment with that person to fully inform him/her about the program. |
| Referral Process | We get referrals from parole agents, pastors, and DHS. Upon arrival, there is a general questionnaire that participants fill out. When that’s completed we check the system to make sure they’re still on parole. Once verified, we set up a date for them to come in and fill out the paperwork. |
| Other | To be eligible for our next steps program – 1) You need to be on parole or probation. 2) You have to be within the first year of release. 2) You can’t have a sexual offense. |
BUILD Chicago
For over 45 years, BUILD has worked in some of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods to stem the violence that takes away the positive potential – and, far too often, the very lives – of our youth. In 1969, BUILD started working with fewer than 200 gang-affiliated teens in one neighborhood and today BUILD serves nearly 3,000 youth annually, offering targeted services to enhance our impact in four priority communities – Austin, East Garfield Park, Humboldt Park and Logan Square – while continuing to provide support in other Chicago neighborhoods and throughout Cook County.
BUILD’s programs are designed to meet both the immediate problem of preventing at-risk youth from joining gangs as well as working with gang-involved youth to develop alternatives to this destructive lifestyle. Our service population also includes youth who have come in contact with the justice system to prevent and/or provide alternatives to detention and assist with successful re-entry into their communities.
