We expect the best of every student and, in turn, provide the support each student needs to achieve their best.
This philosophy has led to significant growth across our schools, with 8 of 9 CICS elementary schools hitting their math and reading targets, meaning that the average student in those grades is making above average gains in both subjects as compared with the national sample. We are proud to say that Chicago International has closed the achievement gap in grades 1st through 8th in reading- and in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th grades in math.
The Shakespeare All-Stars
The mission of The Shakespeare All-Stars is to produce professional theatrical productions that enliven Shakespeare’s plays for veteran theatre-goers and new audiences alike. We strive to present Shakespeare in a fresh, accessible way by suiting “the action to the word, the word to the action.” Dedicated to educational and community outreach, The All-Stars use Shakespeare’s Theatre to inspire, entertain, and educate student audiences through live performances and workshops.

Street-Level Youth Media
Street-Level Youth Media educates Chicago’s urban youth in media arts and emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication, and social change. Street-Level’s programs build critical thinking skills for young people who have been historically neglected by public policy makers and mass media. Using video and audio production, computer art and the Internet, Street-Level’s youth address community issues, access advanced communication technology and gain inclusion in our information-based society.
Street-Level’s media arts training programs are free and open to youth ages 8 to 22. Each year, we reach 1,000 youth across Chicago through on-site, in-school, and community-basedworkshops in video production, audio and music production, graphic design, and digital photography.
Our programs promote media and news literacy, and empower youth to be agents of social change in their community.
All workshops are free, but space is limited to 15 youth per class. Pre-registration is encouraged. To register, please complete and return this

Year Up Chicago
Year Up is an intensive, one year program focused on preparing motivated young adults (ages 18-24 with a high school diploma or GED) for corporate careers in Information Technology. The first 6 months of the program are focused on coursework in the areas of information technology, business communications, and professional skills. After successful completion of the coursework, the students are then placed on a six month internship with a corporate company. Some of our corporate partners include JP Morgan Chase, Google, and Bank of America.
Additionally, through our program our students have the ability to earn up to 18 college credits from Harold Washington College for free, as well as an educational stipend totaling approximately $600 per month while they are taking classes and $900 per month while they are in their internship. Year Up has achieved wonderful outcomes including 100% placement of qualified students in internships, 84% employed or in school full time within 4 months of completing our program, and graduates of our program have an average starting salary of approximately $30,000 annually.
A strong Year Up applicant will:
– Be motivated and have a positive attitude
– Have an interest in technology
– Be able to handle a college level class (community college English 100 or 101)
– Be able to commute downtown every day and commit to the entire year of the program
– Be able to meet high expectations regarding punctuality, attendance, completing assignments

Blocks Together
Blocks Together (BT) is a membership based community organizing group serving the West Humboldt Park (WHP) community on Chicago’s Westside for over 17 years. The organization organizes residents around education, housing, economic justice and youth issues. BT is firmly committed to working on issues of social justice and to empowering people in the community to make their own decisions in all areas of their life. We emphasize a social justice analysis within the framework of the organization, providing political education trainings and connecting residents to broader social justice movements.
Our members are individuals who work, worship, live, access services or go to school in WHP. Members make decisions at every level of the organization. They determine all issues to be addressed and recruit additional leaders to participate in the work of the organization. The Board of Directors is composed entirely of residents, including youth members. This is a unique position for most of our members, and BT is working to strengthen BT’s board of director’s role in leading the BT agenda.
BT is one of few community based organizations in Chicago that only does community organizing, we have no service programs. Therefore all of our efforts are geared towards civic participation and leadership. We consider ourselves to be a grassroots community organization devoted to the education and mobilization of low income people of color of WHP.

YOUmedia Chicago is an innovative, 21st century teen learning space at 11 Chicago Public Library locations. YOUmedia connects young adults, books, media, mentors and institutions throughout Chicago in a dynamic space designed to inspire collaboration and creativity.
